ANZFA gives "green light" to hemp as a food
ANZFA (now renamed Food Standards Australia New Zealand) the food regulatory body for Australia and New Zealand has completed the executive summary announcing that the nutritional benefits of hemp seed and the safety of low THC varieties makes it a welcome inclusion into diets, especially for people who have been advised to increase their unsaturated fatty acids and Omega 3 oils. To see the full report click here
Hemp seed and oil can be added to the diet to help balance the high omega 6 and saturated fats in our diets. Specific formulas can be added to salads and health slices. You can also replace other oils with hemp oil. The great properties in hemp seed oil do not tolerate high temperatures and so it should not be used for frying etc.
People who have found low fat, high carbohydrate diets ineffective may find using essential fatty acids as found in the ratio naturally present in hemp seed makes them not only feel healthier but helps to control weight.
Hemp seed is also high in protein containing all 8 essential amino acids in an easily absorbable form which makes it perfect for people managing their weight. For those following a Low Carb diet this hemp seed is a blessing. For research details click here.
The seed can be eaten in a wide variety of ways including hemp milk, seed patties and snack bars. These amino acids and the other nutrients in the hemp seed meal are also beneficial to the skin.
